The new Lee County hospital is a step closer to becoming a reality.

The Lee County Board of Commissioners announced Friday that the Georgia Department of Community Health determined its Certificate of Need application is complete.

A letter from the Department of Community Health to G. Edward Alexander, president and CEO of Lee County Medical Center, said the application was completed Wednesday. The letter said the Department had previously determined the application to be incomplete.

The Department will now begin its formal review process, which will end Nov. 15, according to the letter. The Department will then make its decision after that.

Lee County said in a press release that it hopes to break ground on the 60-bed, general hospital by early 2018, if approved.
